GoPro rolling out 4K 4:3 aspect ratio update for Hero action camera

GoPro on Thursday (January 30, 2025) announced that its Hero action camera is getting the 4K 4:3 aspect ratio support. The U.S. based company said that users of the Hero action camera can update it for free using the GoPro’s Quik app, available to both, iOS and Android users.

Typically, the 4:3 aspect ratio uses the sensor’s full height and width for capturing the first-person perspectives. It is also suitable for selfie shots, and mainly used for sharing on platforms that support such aspect ratio like Instagram and Facebook.

The users of Hero action camera can also crop their 4:3 videos to 16:9 aspect ratio for a widescreen look.

The GoPro’s Hero action camera weighs around the 86 grams, the company claims. It can be purchased at ₹19,990, on the company’s website, and Flipkart in India.

“The new, tiny HERO camera is so small and light it’s like an invisible camera that you forget is there. It’s brilliant for kids and experienced GoPro users, alike,” said GoPro’s founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman. “And with its new 4:3 ultra-wide video setting, HERO has become my favorite GoPro, ever,” Woodman added.
