OpenAI may decide to charge a monthly fee of up to $20,000 for advanced artificial intelligence (AI) agents, including one that functions at the PhD level, reported tech outlet The Information.
OpenAI is reportedly working on a range of AI agents that are suited to various professions, such as assisting in sales or software engineering. Subscriptions could cost $2,000 or even $10,000 a month, based on the expertise level of the AI agent.
Meanwhile, the PhD-level AI agent could cost a subscriber $20,000 per month.
OpenAI has not yet confirmed the release of such lucrative AI offerings, but CEO Sam Altman sought feedback on how to maximise users’ existing fees.
“[A]n idea for paid plans: your $20 plus subscription converts to credits you can use across features like deep research, o1, gpt-4.5, sora, etc. no fixed limits per feature and you choose what you want; if you run out of credits you can buy more. what do you think? good/bad?” asked Altman on X on March 5.
