Google announced that an experimental version of its Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model is being rolled out to all users immediately, just days after it announced the launch of Gemini 2.5.
Google on March 25 introduced Gemini 2.5 as its “most intelligent AI model,” while an experimental version of Gemini 2.5 Pro was available in the app for Gemini Advanced users
Google then announced on March 30 that it was rolling out an experimental version of Gemini 2.5 Pro to all users.
Noting that Gemini 2.5 Pro was “taking off,” Google said, “The team is sprinting, TPUs are running hot, and we want to get our most intelligent model into more people’s hands asap. Which is why we decided to roll out Gemini 2.5 Pro (experimental) to all Gemini users, beginning today.”
Google said that users could try Gemini 2.5 Pro for free at http://gemini.google.com.
The release came around the time OpenAI added an image generation update to GPT4o that people began using across the world in huge numbers in order to generate Studio Ghibli-style anime images from real photos.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman later backtracked on his announcement and said that the highly popular feature would not be rolled out to free users immediately, citing demand.
By contrast, Google announced that it wanted its model in more people’s hands.
“Gemini 2.5 Pro is available today for everyone to try, with rate limits applying. Gemini Advanced users have expanded access and a significantly larger context window,” posted the Google Gemini app account on X.
