Samsung's Mid-Range 5G Phone Will Get 6 Android Updates: What It Means For Buyers

Samsung is expanding the lineup of its midrange 5G smartphones with the launch of the new Galaxy A16 in India soon. It’s going to be the first A Series smartphone from the brand to come with six generations of OS and security upgrades. The announcement came shortly after the Galaxy A16 5G was listed officially in the Netherlands. The Samsung A16 is expected to come with the same features and specifications in India.

Samsung Galaxy A16 Expected Features

According to reports, the Galaxy A16 sports a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, and a waterdrop notch. The device and runs on Android 14-based One UI 6.1 version and the company has confirmed the phone will get 6 more OS upgrades which is a big feat for any brand.

The Indian variant is likely to be powered by a MediaTek chipset, possibly the Dimensity 6300. The device comes with 4GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage that can be expanded via a microSD card. The phone gets a triple rear camera setup including a 50MP primary sensor, a 5MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro lens. For clear selfies and video calls, it features a 13 MP front-facing camera.

The Galaxy A16 packs a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging. Additional features include 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, a USB Type-C port, IP54 dust and water resistance, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a key island design element that houses the power button and volume rocker on the right edge.

Samsung Galaxy A16 Price In India Expected

Samsung Galaxy A16 is expected to come with a price tag similar to its predecessor, the A15 5G which was released in December last year around Rs 19,000. Promising 6 years of updates is one thing and meeting those claims is another. But it is good to see the brand shift its focus and offer longer OS support for more devices.
