Google’s Gemini will be able to help Spotify users find or play music, through the Gemini Apps platform on eligible Android devices.
Music lovers will be able to have the Gemini app play, search, or browse music on Spotify, once they connect their Google account with their Spotify account. The AI support can be turned on or off through the Extensions settings.
Google said on its own page that users can ask for music on Spotify by song, album, artist, playlist, and other features. However, only Spotify Premium subscribers will be able to listen to exactly the song they requested.
Some tasks that cannot be done by Gemini include creating a Spotify playlist or radio.
Google noted that the Spotify extension only works when Gemini’s language is set to English.
The feature is not yet available through the Gemini app on iPhone.
Spotify has also this year rolled out some AI-powered music compilation features of its own in select regions and markets.
“AI Playlist combines Spotify’s powerful personalization technology with generative AI so users can turn their most creative ideas into playlists. Whether you’re totally new to the game or a prolific playlist creator, this feature offers a fun, easy way to create and curate that perfect musical mix, just for you,” said the music streaming company on September 24 this year.
