WhatsApp rolls out updates for voice and video calls

WhatsApp has announced some new updates for their audio and video call features that will soon be rolled out to users. These improvements will be made to the quality of the calls as well as the design.

In a blog post making the announcement, the company said, “Ahead of the holiday season, we’re introducing new calling features across desktop and mobile, so that connecting with your loved ones is easier than ever.”

Users will be able to select specific participants in a group chat to initiate a call without disturbing other group members. Video calls will also have new camera effects like puppy ears, karaoke microphone and underwater filter to make them more fun.

WhatsApp will also be changing the UI so users can find the call button and dial numbers more easily.

The blog also stated that video calling would have “better quality” and be “more reliable” so users will have “higher resolution and a clearer picture” for them on the platform.

Last month, WhatsApp rolled out a new feature where users will be alerted to message drafts that are typed and haven’t been sent. The platform also made voice message transcription available to everyone recently.
